To answer the question, it is simple, people don’t know how to brainstorm correctly. When done right, innovation can still happen. As a society, we are quick to judge everyone’s thoughts and ideas. When we give an idea and it is shot down immediately we don’t want to share any more ideas. The creative process is shutdown.
R&D should spend at least 50% of their time in the creative process. When the department can come up with the next best thing and outline it well without dismissing any ideas at the start, innovation will happen.
We all thought everything had been invented when Pintrest came along and changed everything. Apps keep coming out and changing more. There is more to us and to what can be. It just takes a bit of change to our process and new things will arise.
